Amazon Says Kindle Sales Topping 1 Million Devices a Week

Video games are starting to pop up everywhere. They are on our home consoles, handheld systems, mobile phones and are now invading tablets as well. To ignore the fact that tablet devices such as Apple’s insanely popular iPad or Amazon’s new Kindle Fire are indeed bonafide gaming machines would be a bit ignorant and gaming companies by the droves are starting to port many of their classic franchises on these wildly popular devices.

Amazon.com Inc., the world’s largest online retailer, said customers have purchased about 1 million of its Kindle e-book readers and tablets in each of the past three weeks and the number will only increase coming into the holiday season. Selling that many devices (not to mention its plethora of Kindle Cover and other accessories) has made gaming companies take note and has become a major focus for them in the coming year.

The Kindle Fire tablet, which sells for $199, has been the best-selling product on Amazon.com since its introduction 11 weeks ago and shows no signs of slowing down. Kindle Fire sales have risen sharply week-over-week  and Kindle covers as well as other accessories have enjoyed a healthy sales season as well.

With all this positive sales discussion, a ton of game companies are now starting to shift a lot of their resources in developing or porting their franchises to these devices and I was hoping to get some feedback from you guys on how you felt about the whole situation. From a developer standpoint, it’s a lot easier to develop for these devices and gives them a broader audience to reach which in turn helps increase profits. I love gaming on my iPad and very much view it as a video game system of its own and welcome the fact that Amazon is now starting to show its hand with the new Kindle Fire.

What do you guys think? Are you “sold” on the whole “tablet gaming thing,”?

    Wow…
I’ve honestly never seen or used a kindle in my life.
    But it looks pretty interesting…
