I think we can all agree that Princess Peach needs to invest in a new home security system but until that day happens, gamers everywhere will be treated to all new Mario adventures and will need to save her over and over again. Yes gamers, it’s that time again and with the arrival of New Super Mario bros 2 for Nintendo 3DS, we are treated to another nostalgic Mario title.
Does this game hold up to the series greatness? Read on and find out.
You probably all know by now what to expect in a Mario title and New Super Mario Bros. 2 is no different. This 2D Mario will have players running, jumping and collecting a massive amount of coins all with flawless controls all throughout the entire game. The 5-6 hour adventure is nothing new for Mario fans and that classic Mario feel is evident through and through. The game (as expected) features vibrant and colorful graphics as we have all come to love in Mario’s games.
The 3D feature in New Super Mario Bros. 2 my-as-well be non-exsitstant as the title doesn’t utilize this feature all that well. Where the excellent Super Mario 3D Land was tailor made for the 3rd dimension, New Super Mario Bros. 2 really focuses squarely on 2D gameplay and I found that some of the detail that went into the backgrounds got lost if the slider is turned way up.
I hope your ears are ready to hear the coin chime because they will hear it a lot. If you haven’t figured out by now, New Super Mario Bros. 2 puts all its emphasis on collecting gold coins and helps add to the games re-playability. Coins coins coins are everywhere and the game tallies your coin count across all saves. It felt satisfying every time my coin total went up and up and made me come back to the game more and more. I found myself replaying levels to best my total and loved every minute of it.
All in all I feel like there’s not much more to say about this wonderful addition to the 3DS. It’s a classic Mario title and with nothing really too new to mention. I found myself LOVING collecting and hoarding all the coins sprinkled throughout the game and the coin rush mode proved to be a great addition as well. When a series is already so close to perfection, it’s hard to mess with the formula that has helped the pudgy plumber sell so many titles. The game will be a great addition to everyone’s Nintendo 3DS library.
Overall Myvideogamenews Score: 8.5 out of 10.
As always, thanks for reading.
