Borderlands 2 Review

Borderlands 2 has captivated my interest and has yet to let go. I have Gunzerked, Mechoromanced and Commanded my way through this outstanding game of the year contender and I keep coming back for more. Borderlands 2 reminds me of the times when I was a kid and collected football cards. The allure of running to my favorite card store and cracking open a pack to see what treasures lie inside was a feeling of pure joy and now has been replicated in this game…. Only instead of collecting football cards, in Borderlands 2 you collect guns; lots and lots of guns! Having missed the first in the series, Borderlands 2 has quickly become my top runner for game of the year for 2012.

Borderlands 2 is a gorgeous FPS with RPG elements, highly addictive gameplay, more loot than you can shake a gun at and a kick ass story with a number of memorable characters. The game has simply taken over my XBOX 360 and my other titles are just begging to be played. The majority of my playtime with this magnificent game has been with my buddy and has been nothing short of perfect.

The tight controls mixed with the funky visual presentation are remarkable and has quickly become one of my favorite franchises of all time. I missed out on the first one in the series but I now plan on picking it up this week. Borderland 2 controls like any normal FPS. The controls are what everyone has come to expect in the genre and are flawless. I had no trouble jumping right in with the game and found it very simple to pick up and play.

The game is a visual masterpiece and sets itself apart from other video games on the market. Borderlands 2 has substance to boot and the visuals are something to marvel at. It fits the game perfectly and when everything comes together and the game hits its stride, it’s hard to deny that this is one beautiful title. It has an edgy, comic book feel and just seems to fit the game like a glove. Characters come to life, enemies look bad ass and the environments are spectacular. The games visuals help this quality franchise standout and I hope they continue this with future titles.

One of the main draws to this game is its loot system. When playing through Borderlands 2, there are literally millions of things to collect and it gets addicting very quickly. In no time at all, my buddy Kevin and I have spent countless hours looting everything we came across throughout Pandora and have made our wives very mad at us in the process. I cannot tell you how many times we played easily until 3 in the morning only to be back at it the next night.

Overall to say that I am impressed with Gearboxes latest would be a HUGE understatement. I have become obsessed with the title and it’s truly been a joy to play. Finding a new gun or beating a giant boss all felt awesome and I will always be back for more. The game is easily my game of the year for 2012 thus far and should be in your collection if you own a PS3 or XBOX 360.

Overall Myvideogamenews score: 10 out of 10.

As always, thanks for reading.
