Interview With Pixel Press: Draw Your Own Video Game

So I recently came across this Kickstarter campaign and it blew my mind. It is for an upcoming iOS app that allows people to draw their own video game. Pixel Press is an iOS & Android app that lets you draw your own video game level (no code required!) and share it with others. After watching the video I reached out to the creator of Pixel Press and here is our interview:

First and foremost, tell us a bit about yourself…

I live in St. Louis MO and have been working in the Interactive space for nearing 14 years, spending the last 5 focused on mobile. My background is in UI and UX, and some gaming, so bringing a “builder” platform to the gaming experience is a good fit for my background.

I have watched the video over at kickstarter, but for those who haven’t checked it out yet, how did this app/idea come about?

Back in January of this year, I was reminicing with some friends over our childhood pasttimes, including drawing video games. I was also looking into OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tools at the time, and when I put the two together, the idea clicked, and I started build a paper prototype. I received a great deal of positive feedback from the outset and it spiraled from there.

Castle of Illusion – Behind the Scenes Trailer

Here is a beautiful Castle of Illusion – Behind the Scenes trailer for everyone to watch. The game looks like it’s going to be something very special and I will have my eye on it leading up until its release. The level of detail in this remake is astounding and it’s remarkable to see how far video games have come in such a short time.

Zelda: Wind Waker HD Poster Shows First Piece of Art

Nintendo has been hosting a “Wii U Summer Showcase” where fans can get hands-on time with the system’s games and learn more about the innovative hardware. The company recently went to Disneyland and, much to our surprise, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD was on display.

Although the game wasn’t playable, Nintendo did bring along a beautiful poster that depicts the first art from the GameCube HD remake. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD is easily one of my most anticipated titles this year and I cannot wait to see/hear more about it in the coming weeks.

If you are a Wii U owner you owe it to yourself to play this amazing title. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD is set to release later this year exclusively for Wii U.

Official Boxart for Sonic Lost World

Nintendo has revealed the official boxart for Sonic Lost World and it looks fantastic. The game, which is a Wii U exclusive, will no doubt be apart of Nintendo’s E3 plans and I am fully expecting this one to be playable at select Best Buy locations come next month.

I find this box art colorful and vibrant and is one of my favorite box arts for a Wii U title.

What do you guys think?

Here is an AMAZING video of DISNEY INFINITY: Toy Box Racing. I have said it before and I will say it again; DISNEY INFINITY is going to be HUGE. This game really has it all and I cannot wait to get my hands on the game this August.

DISNEY INFINITY unlocks the freedom to play with some of your favorite Disney and Disney/Pixar worlds like never before! You can experience adventures in the worlds of Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles and Monsters University – take on the role of Sulley, the naturally gifted ‘scarer’; become Captain Jack Sparrow, the sword-wielding pirate; or transform yourself into Mr. Incredible, one of the world’s greatest crime-fighters. Battle enemies, solve puzzles, overcome obstacles and complete a variety of other unique quests.

Or create your own world! Unlock virtual toys, characters, buildings, weapons, gadgets and more — and bring them into the Disney Infinity ‘Toy Box’ where you can mix them all up to create your own game. In the Disney Infinity Toy Box, there are no rules and you can create any adventure you want. Share your creations with your friends with up to 4-player co-op play.

Great stuff for video game players everywhere.

Sonic Lost Worlds Debut Trailer

Here is the first Sonic Lost Worlds debut trailer for your viewing pleasure. Sonic is back and discovering a lost world in this Wii U and 3DS exclusive. The trailer shows a nice mix of gameplay and cut scenes and has left a positive impression on me thus far. On the last Nintendo Direct, Sega and Nintendo had announced an exclusive partnership for the next 3 Sonic titles so this one is only headed to Wii U and 3DS.
