The Big Decisions of Destiny’s Development

Now a team of 500, the technical director and fourth person to work on Destiny talks about the road to launching the game in 2014. Destiny is set to release on Sony and Microsoft systems and will light up retail late next year.

Super Smash Bros director Masahiro Sakurai has talked in depth about the importance of balance in his feature column in this week’s edition of Famitsu. Sakurai has reiterated that he is extremely careful about finding the right balance between the characters and delivering a game that ultimately lives up to the fans expectations. Earlier this week, Masahiro Sakurai also stated that he is putting every effort to get Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U “sooner rather than later”.

Here is what he had to say regarding the highly anticipated title:

“Now that Sunday’s day off is past, I’m currently working on the character adjustment for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.At the moment, Bowser is very strong. He’s really strong. Fans of Smash Bros. probably never saw him as too much of a strong character, but this time, his ability to knock others out is very strong!”

“Doing things like simply ‘lowering the performance’ can make games lose its fun. Additionally, making a strong attack weaker can take away from the ‘good feeling’. By making adjustments that get rid of all advantages and disadvantages, it can turn a game into a mediocre one without any challenge.”

“Rather than directly weakening an attack’s advantageous parts, we’re putting effort into keeping them strong, while adding other weaknesses to them. Like giving the attacks punishable openings, or weakening the character’s mobility or recovery rate. We’re making comprehensive adjustments to characters, even for parts that might seem completely irrelevant.”

“The game balance of Super Smash Bros. Brawl started six years before its release, and it most likely goes back even further during its time of development, and it’s never been reformed even through the updates afterwards. We’re at a stage where we’d like to release the new title as soon as possible, and offer something more enjoyable than ever.”

Zelda Making Her Return to Super Smash Bros U

Nintendo has announced today that Zelda will be a playable character in the highly anticipated Smash Bros game for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. We’ve yet to get a firm release date for the popular Super Smash Bros, but it is coming sometime in 2014 (my money is on this time next year).

Although the Skyloft stage is present in the back, it appears as though this version of Zelda will be more like the one from Twilight Princess rather than Skyward Sword.

Video: Bungie and Paul McCartney: The Collaborative Music of Destiny

Bungie’s Marty O’Donnell and Mike Salvatori show off their new their compositions for Destiny and how their work process involves Sir Paul McCartney. I have a hunch that Destiny is going to be 2014’s biggest new IP when it launches next year.

Destiny will release on September 9th.

Wii U Overview Video

Here is an all new Wii U Overview video from Nintendo. The new overview trailer definitely gets the point across and I wonder if this will have any effect on sales. The Wii U is enjoying a thriving Holiday season right now so it will be interesting to see if they can continue this recent string of success long after the Holidays.

Check out the Wii U overview video and let me know what you think.
