5 Things To Know About Street Fighter

sf-v

Although Street Fighter V doesn’t have a firm release date just yet, it’s likely that Capcom will release it in the first half of 2015. They have been promoting it a lot since recently announcing its existence, with the first gameplay footage being released just last week. They actually let people play it, too, which, again, hopefully means it’ll arrive relatively soon. If not, well, there are plenty of ways for the Street Fighter fanatics out there to fill their time—like this list! In doing some research, I found five things you may not know about the franchise, including a quite hilarious bit about Blanka.

The Next Game May Break Your Heart

As previously noted here, the fifth entry in the legendary fighting series is a PlayStation 4 exclusive. That basically means that you have two options: 1) You can finally buy that PS4 you’ve been eyeing for the past year or 2) You can just give up on Street Fighter and tell everyone you don’t care that you don’t get to play it. Don’t fool yourself: you know the second option isn’t happening.

The Spinoffs Have Gotten Interesting

From video games to television shows, every form of entertainment that can have a spinoff will have a spinoff. And more often than not, they can get pretty weird. Such is not necessarily the case with the Street Fighter spinoff game that I found on InterCasino that takes the second installment and turns it into a slot machine. As strange as that may sound, it actually makes some sense when you see how they pulled off the animations, sound effects, etc.

Blanka Loves Trolling Other Games

Everyone’s favourite green mutant/savage—in Street Fighter, at least—is apparently a massive troll. As in, he likes to insert himself in other video games and troll the crap out of them. OK, that’s not necessarily true, but one YouTube user has made it seem that way. As you can see on Kotaku, Blanka makes his way through Minecraft, League of Legends, and plenty of other games… with the purpose of messing with everyone involved. It’s pretty humourous and, from an editing standpoint, rather well made.

There’s a Surprisingly Good YouTube Show

You may be the biggest Street Fighter fanboy/fangirl in the world, but chances are you still probably don’t love the movies that have tried bringing the fighting game to the silver screen. To that end, you’re also probably tired of even hearing about the film adaptations. If that’s the case, you need to watch Assassin’s Fist. While it’s far from perfect, it’s a pretty damn solid episodic take on the franchise. Yes, there should have been more characters and, sure, the acting isn’t the best, but the fight scenes are superb and it could be the start of something special.

There’s a “Failblog” Dedicated to the Game

The Internet, as you know, is a pretty weird place. That’s doubly true when you consider everything that exists on the web that, well, probably doesn’t need to. Such is not the case with this ever-growing failblog dedicated completely to Street Fighter. It’s mostly filled with weird edits incorporating sound effects and animations from the game into clips of people fighting, animals doing random things, etc.
