Badland Game of The Year Edition Wii U Review

In case you missed Badland the first time around, the game originally released on iOS and Android two years ago and was highly praised. It won countless awards on the mobile platform and featured an amazing art direction with outstanding gameplay to boot. While it worked flawlessly on my iOS device, did the game create the same impact on the Wii U?

Read on and find out.

I am very happy to report the transition to the Wii U home console was a nice one and Badland Game of The Year Edition for Nintendo’s latest home console is pretty sweet. It’s easy to pick up and hard to put down… Which is a very cliche statement, but if you download the game, you will know exactly what I am talking about. Badland controls perfectly and features easy gameplay that just about anyone can enjoy. The game sucks you in with its creepy presentation but makes you stay with the outstanding gameplay.

The basic gist of the game is to fly your blob-like character (by pressing ZR on the Wii U gamepad) to the end of each stage avoiding falling rocks, buzz saws and other debris. It’s charming and hooks gamers right in. Badland Game of The Year Edition features over 100 levels for players to toy around with so this one should keep you busy for some time. The game slowly introduces new mechanics as you progress which keeps things fresh throughout the entirety of the title. The levels ramp up in difficulty and will challenge you to be as precise as possible. Some levels will have you shrinking Clone (the character you play) down to an itty bitty spec on the screen and some have you sacrificing a number of other Clones just to reach the end of the level. I found it really enjoyable and with its cheap eShop price, this one is a no brainer for Wii U owners.

If all this praise wasn’t enough, the game absolutely shines on the big screen. Badland is a marvel to behold and looks beautiful. The combination of pure blacks with gorgeous backdrops makes for an atmospheric adventure that is a sight to see.

All in all, this one is a no brainer for Wii U owners. It’s a beautiful eShop game that couples the games gorgeous graphics with addicting and easy to play controls. If you are worried that a mobile title couldn’t make the transition to the big screen, fear not… Badland Game of The Year is one fantastic game
