Nintendo 3DS: ExciteBike 3D for Free

Nintendo has told investors that they will be distributing a 3D Classic version of Excitebike absolutely free in Japan with the system update that’s due to hit in May.

The May update will see a number of new features for the Nintendo 3DS such as the long awaited 3DS eShop which will include downloadable titles as well as the Nintendo 3DS web browser (I’m hoping Flipnote studio makes launch). No word yet if the title will also release alongside the US update but I’d imagine that would be the case. Nintendo eShop is certainly looking good.

More as it develops.

Nintendo 3DS Sales Update

The Nintendo 3DS has officially sold 3.61 million units since its launch last month, Nintendo has confirmed.

Although falling short of the company’s initial four million prediction, Nintendo describes this as a “smooth start” for the innovative handheld and with games like Zelda OOT, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus and Star Fox headed to the system, I think that they will once again start its dominance in the handheld realm.

Decent start to an awesome handheld. If you care to read our official review for the system, click here.

The immensely popular DSi application, Flipnote Studio, will now be heading to the Nintendo 3DS according to Shigeru Miyamoto. Miyamoto revealed that development is already underway on the 3DS version and the application will act as an animation tool and will be free of charge.

I am officially thrilled. Check out one of my flipnotes below:

Nintendo News: Miyamoto on Project Cafe rumors and much more

The following info stems from a recent interview with Miyamoto and outlines some pretty interesting stuff. Check out the details below:

- Miyamoto says he’s working on a new Zelda, a new Mario, Mario Kart 3DS, and a new Pikmin
- Nintendo making new AR Games for the 3DS
- Miyamoto didn’t say if these new AR Games will be retail releases or downloadable
- Miyamoto reconfirmed that Nintendo intends to celebrate Zelda’s 25th anniversary just like they did for Mario
- Many products/merchandising for Zelda’s anniversary (unclear if this means games or CD/books)
- Miyamoto on Project Cafe rumors: Nintendo always working on new hardware and “where there’s smoke there’s fire”, but “you shouldn’t believe everything you read [on the internet]“.
- Miyamoto considering entrusting the younger teams with traditional characters such as Mario and Zelda, so he can get more time to work for himself

Nintendo 3DS: Miyamoto discusses Super Mario 3DS, new details emrge

“It’s a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on N64. It won’t convey the message if I talk to you today, but if you play it at E3 that will give you more understanding of what I’m talking about. For example, the floors floating in space: in 2D it’s difficult to judge the distance, but in 3D it’s really easy. The tail you mentioned on the logo – it’s what you think it is. You probably know what’s going to happen using that character.”

A combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64? Super Mario 3DS is sounding almost too good to be true and I really hope this makes it to retail before the end of the year like we reported.

More as it develops my friends, stay tuned!

Nintendo 3DS: Super Mario coming this year

The new Nintendo 3DS Mario platformer briefly shown off last month at GDC, could be seen on store shelves before the end of this year according to Shigeru Miyamoto. Here is what he had to say regarding the highly anticipated title:

“I promise to do all I can to deliver the new Mario game this year.”

I wonder if the recent sales slip (although expected) has anything to do with this. Only time will tell my young Jedi’s… I know I would be extremely excited if this turns out to be true. More as it develops.
