Opinion: Wii U Price Cut Imminent

With all of today’s crazy Nintendo announcements one would have to assume that there will be a price cut for their existing home console, Wii U. The Wii U hit store shelves on November 18th 2012 and has only seen one price drop in the systems lifetime. Today, Nintendo made a HUGE splash by not only announcing that they will be developing titles for the smartphone market but they are also hard at work at their next dedicated gaming system, codenamed NX. With all these announcements, we here at MVGN think that it’s only a matter of time before the Wii U sees a price cut.

Despite the fact that the Wii U is home to some of the best games in video game history, the system has continued to stumble in terms of hardware sales. Nintendo has finally acknowledged this and seems to be very aggressive with announcing their next dedicated game machine codenamed NX. While we likely will not hear any solid information regarding the new project until next year, Nintendo has to show gamers that the Wii U is still a fantastic system and try and attract as many gamers as possible to the flailing system. We think that a price cut for Nintendo’s Wii U is not only a no brainer at this point, it is practically imminent.

PS4 and XBOX One continue to sell at alarming rates while the Wii U has been falling behind ever since it was released in 2012. With today’s announcement and its impressive game lineup for 2015, the time is perfect for a Wii U price drop. By no means will a price drop help make the Wii U relevant in terms of competing with Sony and Microsoft, it should help the system get a blip on their life support system. If you are a regular visitor to myvideogamenews, you already know how much we love the Wii U. In our humble opinion, it is the best system out right now but for some reason or another, Nintendo couldn’t find its way with Wii U and we applaud Nintendo for making aggressive moves regarding the matter.

A price drop for a system that already has many great exclusives as well as outstanding Nintendo titles could be what the doctor has ordered for the big N. More people would be willing to “take the Wii U” plunge and see what they have been missing this time around with the system. If and when Nintendo aggressively prices the Wii U, hopefully gamers will flock to the system and get excited that Nintendo is already developing a next generation console. People may finally see what they have been missing with the Wii U.

When do you think Nintendo will announce a price cut? Thanks for reading.

First Nintendo Smartphone Games Will Be Released Later This Year

Following today’s announcement of Nintendo making a splash into the Smartphone market, it has been confirmed that the first Nintendo Smartphone games will be released later this year. The company hasn’t revealed any hints as to which game franchise will be released first, but it will certainly be interesting to see which series makes its debut on the mobile platform. If we were to make a guess, we would put our money on a puzzle title.
